We went to Japan for a week before we flew to China. I will talk more about Japan in later posts, but let's continue for now. We decided to fly to Shanghai first for a few reasons:
1. You can pretty much fly to Shanghai directly from any big city.
2. It is convenient for a traveler, because you can fly pretty much anywhere in China from the Shanghai Pudong International Airport.
3. My dad was born and raised there and my aunt lives there (although I'm sure that doesn't matter to you)
Useful to know:
It is about a 45 minute drive by car if you use a taxi or someone picks you up. However, I would not recommend renting a car or using a taxi because of the heavy traffic in Shanghai and other big cities. You can take a subway or bullet train, and it is much faster. Riding the bullet train, it only takes about 8 minutes to get to the city, and riding the subway is about 30 minutes, but all of these statistics could vary depending on the traffic conditions and how many people are out. I will go more into the details of transportation in a later post.
