Mount Hua is about an hour and a half from Xi'an and I would recommend taking the bus there because taking a taxi would be very expensive for such a long distance. Mount Hua is 7,087 feet high and very beautiful. To get up, you can either take a sky tram or walk up on what is sometimes described as one of the most dangerous hikes in the world, so I would not recommend going up if you are afraid of heights. As with all tourist attractions all over the world, the line for a sky tram is long and slow. When we went, we waited about an hour and a half in line just for the sky tram. My dad and I are deathly afraid of heights, so we just sucked it in while the sky tram took us high up into the mountains. Let me tell you, the ride up was not fun; I felt like my life was hung on a wire, which in reality it was. However, we finally made it to the top, and we felt a lot better. We still had to hike to get to the North Peak. We thought the terror was over after the cable car, but the hike up was terrifying as well. One slip, and you could fall down, which is why exercising extreme caution is important if you are hiking up. Once we actually got to the scenic points, the view was breathtaking. The view was so stunning, it almost made you forget the sheer drop of terror, a few inches from your feet. Make sure to bring water and snacks, so you can have it on you wherever you are. There are little snack and drink stands on the mountain but they are very overpriced. When you have seen everything, the walk down is even scarier than going up. Some passes just go around the side of the mountain with a chain rope for you to hold onto. We took a cable tram down, as most people do, and going down was even more terrifying than going up. After going down, we were exhausted and took a bus back. Since it takes such a long time, I would save a whole day for Mount Hua.
